Dear Rachel: I am a teacher at King-Robinson International Baccalaureate school in New Haven, CT. Every year we have an International night to celebrate different cultures.. This year our Principal wanted to have an International exhibition. Our students chose the country of Africa and I decided to have the girls in the class sew some ‘Little Dresses for Africa’. The 7th grade girls were very excited and for some of them it was their first sewing project EVER! For them it was an education – some students didn’t know what a needle was or even how to thread a needle, so this entire project was a learning experience for the girls and some of the boys. I can’t wait to do this again next year! Our students learn what it is to give back to someone who is outside of the United States and they experienced a sense of community and working together to get a job done!. I will be sending the dresses off to you. Keep up the work that you do for the girls and boys of Africa!!!
